The Bullshit Potpourri

Schedule Review

Updated: June 12, 2015

We've made it through week 9, which means that everyone has played all of their division foes once.  Let's take a look at the results:

Russell jumped out to an insane 26-4 record thanks in part to a 10-0 shutout in week 1, and he now maintains the best inter-division record in the FBL. Greg and Mike stumbled out of the gates, and in week 3 both of them failed to meet the innings minimum which is why they have so many ties.  By the way, when I saw that happen I dropped the innings pitched minimum from 45 down to 30.  I think 3 people noticed.

The Central is pretty tight, except for Jon who has yet to make a move this season.  He looks like he's really enjoying himself.

The West is a bit of a mix, with Nick starting strong through the first of three divisional sets.  Richie and Greeley are scraping by around .500 while Dean was swept in his 3 game set.

Here's how the divisions have fared against each other:

The West is the whipping post through the first 9 weeks, with sub .500 records against both divisions.

Based on the team stats we've all compiled, here's what we could have expected our winning percentages to be if we played an average opponent every week.  Russell is enjoying a heavily inflated winning percentage while Jon has been terribly unlucky.

Schedule Construction

With a 22 week season and 11 opponents, the numbers break out to a conveniently balanced, everyone-plays-everyone-twice schedule.

But that's not fun.

Instead, everyone's schedule looks like this:

- 4 games against your rival
- 6 games against your non-rival division opponents (3 and 3)
- 12 games against non-division opponents

If you're in the Eastern Division, you'll be squaring off against your divisional foes in weeks 1-3 and 10-12.

If you're in the Central Division, you'll be squaring off against your divisional foes in weeks 4-6 and 13-15.

If you're in the Western Division, you'll be squaring off against your divisional foes in weeks 7-9 and 16-18.

And for the last month of the season, when it all counts and everything is on the line, we are going BALLS TO THE WALL and having four consecutive weeks of divisional play, including league-wide rivalry weeks in Week 19 and Week 22.

With this sprint to the finish, no division lead is safe.

Imagine the angry text messages you'll receive from your rival as you play the role of spoiler in the last week of the season, blocking him from nabbing that wild card spot and costing him tens of dollars!

The Rivalries:

Greg Thompson vs Brad Calandrella - The Battle for Grafton Ave

Russ Travers vs Mike Frangieh - The Incident

James Maimonis vs Kurt Gottschalk - The Bitchfest

Jon Bissonnette vs Jeff Marlowe - The Stranger Danger Season Changer

Brendan Greeley vs Nick Broadhead - The Griffith Grudgematch

Richie Travers vs Dean Neligan - The Committee Conflict
